Growing Creativity (21 of 52)

Hello my friends,

Sometime back I got into a discussion with some of my co-workers about creativity, the discussion was whether someone could be trained to be creative or is it just a natural gift.

So here is my homage to this topic.  I call it "Growing Creativity".

  1. Well, that opens a can of worms. (Or maybe a flower pot of sticks.) Did you and your colleagues agree on the definition of creativity? Is creativity in the arts the same as creativity in science/engineering? If Picasso sat in on a physics brainstorming session, would he appear to be creative?
Is creativity the same as problem solving? If a designer applies sound engineering principles and years of experience to reach a novel solution to a design challenge, is that creativity? What if a newbie without the experience pulls an idea out of the air and it is even better, is that being more creative?
Why does creativity in children's art become so rare after about the third grade? Do any non-human species exhibit creativity? Will there ever be a machine that exhibits creativity? If the answer is "maybe so", then does that suggest creativity can be taught? Sorry to ramble so much, but you opened the door.
And no, I don't understand the photograph, so it must be highly creative! 8=)

  2. What a wonderfully imaginative shot. Additionally the muted color and lighting make the composition even stronger. Everyone has the spark of creativity some have it so strongly we call them naturally gifted and they are very very rare. Most of the people that we think are naturally gifted are not, the have the spark plus the will to put in their 10000 hours in to build their "gift". People like the overnight success story but if you look past the hype most of them have spent a decade getting there. "stay calm and keep shooting. :)
