Cool Cat (3 of 52)

Hi Everyone,

I was in the backyard watching the kids play and our cat Lucy strolled up next to me.  I had my camera on hand so I snapped a few photos of her and I really like this one.  I was trying to capture her wild eyes.  You would think that a lap cat would set still, but everytime I try to get a face on look from her, she would turn away.  It was almost like she was camera shy.

  1. Cat's eyes are always great photographic subjects. I especially like the reflections in these eyes, and in particular the one on the left (cat's right eye). Have you thought about cropping and blowing up just an eye?

  2. Perfect focus on the eyes. I'm bothered a little bit by the cropping. Without showing the mouth, the shape of the head is not defined and it seems to be very wide at the bottom. Doesn't look bad, just doesn't look entirely like a cat. I'm being picky, but that's what jumped out at me.

  3. @MC: Thanks. I will have to try your suggestion of cropping/blowing up the right eye.

@BigOwl: Thanks and I appreciate your feedback. I see your point.

  4. That is a really nice shot; the focal point is perfect. I'll make things even more confusing for you by offering one more crop option. Crop in from the left and right until both eyes are are not in the center third and if you have more on the top and bottom try BigOwl's suggestion at the same time.
